Eczema Attitude: I will do what I will do

I’ve talked enough about eczema in the past few months.  (That’s how it goes:  you can’t really tell your  neighbors, or even your close friends, because they just can’t understand and they’ll grow tired of your “complaints”.  You can’t wear what you might like to wear because it might expose really scary looking skin, and people might grimace and back off — what is a tanktop?  It’s embarrassing.  The super in my building asked me if I had bedbugs because I had shoved my sleeves up to my elbows when I stopped to ask him a question, so I had to go through the whole song and dance, and I even offered to show him the prescriptions from doctors.)

So, at last writing, I mentioned what I was doing: using the prescription items from the hospital doctors as well as my aromatherapy and homeopathic remedies.

The infection is clearing up quite rapidly, now that, on top of all else, I rub in a few drops of oregano oil, neat (my aromatherapy diploma course said that you only need a few drops in a whole bottle of carrier oil, but the “zing” that I feel when I put the oregano oil directly on that area makes me feel like it is really working)

My mother, bless her heart, sent me a little booklet she’d picked up at the dermatologist’s office, which talks about the possibility that dietary and lifestyle  (stress) issues may bring on eczema.  Why do you think that I am a raw vegan? Certainly not because I like carrots!   I’ve seen most of those ideas on the internet, and it is worthwhile, I think, to play around with elimination diets, to see if any particular food triggers or aggravates an eczema bout.

So, anyway, my basics now are oregano oil, and my long-time favorite, Four Thieves oil (search in my blog’s search box) I’ve always used Four Thieves neat. I like the fragrance, and other people often ask me what perfume I am wearing (That beats: “Hey, how come you smell like a salad?”)  I do often use Medicine Mama’s All in One Healing Skin Cream (beeswax, royal jelly, honey, etc) as a carrier, especially if I need to cover major areas of skin – right now, upper back, lower hiney, inner thighs, arms from hands to shoulders, and legs from knee to toe.)

At this point, I am feeling pretty good.  My ankles and feet are no longer swollen with the lesions, my arms are thin once again, and almost soft, I can walk normally, and I can see the bones in the backs of my hands. (I’m still waiting to see the bones in my right foot, but I am sure they are there and will come back as soon as they can)

  1. Soothe sunburn! Pure aloe feels cool and comforting against fried skin.
  2. Rub a bit on minor itches like mosquito bites.
  3. Mix one part aloe and one part water in a spray bottle to use as a facial mist or general skin-soother when you’re hot and sticky from the sun…
  4. …or spray onto your hair to moisturize and refresh your ‘do.
  5. Suffering from seborrheic dermatitis or psoriasis? Aloe applications may help – give it a try!
  6. Instead of shaving cream (full of nasty chemicals), use aloe gel on your skin before reaching for the razor…
  7. …and if you’re suffering from razorburn, apply aloe after shaving, too.
  8. Use it to tame frizzy hair before styling. Think of it as a 100% natural smoothing serum (it’s the smoothing ingredient in conditioners and defrizzers that don’t use silicone!)
  9. Looking for an oil-free moisturizer for sensitive or acne-prone skin? You can use straight aloe on your face instead of schlepping to the drugstore.

  16. Make a tightening facial mask by mixing aloe gel with a few spoonfuls of oats and something moisturizing (honey, your favorite oil, or a few drops of essential oils, for example.) Leave on for 15-20 minutes.
  17. Exfoliate by mixing a few teaspoons of sugar with the juice of half a lemon. Scrap in the insides of one aloe leaf. Rub over your face in gentle circular motions and rinse.
  18. Drink aloe juice (available in most grocery stores) to help with indigestion, constipation, and mild gastrointestinal complaints.
  19. Splash some aloe juice into your green smoothie and enjoy the benefits.
  20. Put on a cowboy hat, mix yourself a Southwestern-style cocktail, and toast to the amazing powers of this succulent little plant!

LAVENDER OINTMENT

LAVENDER OINTMENT

4 T olive oil
3 to 4 T beeswax
3 T cocoa butter
1 vitamin E capsule
15 drops lavender essential oil

Combine olive oil, beeswax, cocoa butter and heat in the top of a double boiler.
Remove from the heat.
Add vitamin E and lavender oil,  and beat thoroughly

Pour into small jars. Allow mixture to cool before covering.

LAVENDER/SANDALWOOD OINTMENT

Excellent for burns, chapped lips, cold sores, and more

4 T olive or almond oil
3 to 4 T beeswax
3 t cocoa butter
2 t lanolin
10 drops vitamin E oil
15 drops lavender essential oil
15 drops sandalwood essential oil

Combine the olive (or almond) oil, beeswax, cocoa butter, and lanolin.
Heat thoroughly in the top of a double boiler.
Remove from heat.
Add the vitamin E, lavender & sandalwood oils and mix well.
Pour into small jars..
Allow to cool before covering with lids.

will keep from 6 to 12 months.
